Product Quality

The Emerson Ecologics Product Quality Commitment:
Emerson Ecologics has been committed to product quality for over 20 years. We select professional-only product lines that have a higher commitment to quality than most consumer brands, and we work in an ongoing partnership with our suppliers on quality issues.

Over the last twenty years as the use of dietary supplements has become more widespread, as raw materials are being sourced from all over the world, as world wide agricultural pollution increases, and as many new inexperienced commercial companies are entering the raw materials market, product quality and product safety issues have come to the center of industry, regulatory and consumer concerns. To cite just a few examples of this trend:

The Food & Drug Administration will soon be mandating that all manufacturers of dietary supplements follow good manufacturing practices and register all of their overseas raw material suppliers.
The state of California has mandated strict new minimums for the lead content of foods including supplements.
The European Community has mandated new lower minimums for PCB’s and Dioxins in fish oil products.
ConsumerLab.com, the media, and consumer organizations are routinely conducting independent tests of product potency.

As a result of these and other similar events, Emerson Ecologics has decided to formalize and expand our on-going efforts to enhance product quality by forming the Product Quality Committee to work with our manufacturers as partners in the ongoing process of ensuring the highest product quality possible for you and your patients.

Product Quality Committee Goals:
Our Product Quality Committee is dedicated to working with all our suppliers on all relevant quality, safety and regulatory compliance guidelines issued by the Food & Drug Administration, the American Herbal Products Association, the American Botanical Council, the National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA), the Federal Trade Commission, the European Community, and the Health Authorities of governments throughout the world.

The Product Quality Committee is also committed to monitoring the published research, the news media, and reports from consumer advocacy groups for quality and safety issues that we pass on to our suppliers and healthcare practitioners. The Product Quality Committee continues, and enhances, our commitment to working in partnership with our suppliers on these issues.

Priority Tasks of the Committee:
Our on-going efforts to enhance product quality currently focus on working in partnership with our suppliers on the following priorities:

Good Manufacturing Practices in preparation for the new FDA mandated GMP’s.
Good Ecological Practices by avoiding the use of endangered species in their products.
Good Labeling Practices that include appropriate information or warnings on possible side effects and drug-nutrient interactions.
FDA and FTC guidelines for product labeling and advertising.
Independent lab tests to confirm the potency of nutrients and herbs which have been questioned in the research, by the media, or by clinicians.
Compliance with all relevant industry guidelines, FDA guidelines, State guidelines, European guidelines and other international health agency guidelines for product quality and safety, including safety standards for dioxins, PCB’s, heavy metals, potentially toxic constituents of herbs, as well as standards for potency and quality.
The monitoring of research reports and the media for emerging product quality and safety issues to pass on to suppliers and healthcare practitioners.
The reporting of adverse events and product quality concerns immediately to manufacturers and requesting prompt follow-up responses.

Healthcare Practitioners’ Contribution:
We greatly value your contribution to our quality assurance program and request that you contact us immediately if you have any product quality concerns about specific products from your clinical experience or from reading literature and attending conferences. In this way we can become an even more effective clearinghouse for product quality concerns, which we will communicate directly to manufacturers.

NNFA GMP Certified Companies:
At Emerson Ecologics we select professional-only product lines that have a higher commitment to quality than most consumer brands. Some of our manufacturers have even been thru the NNFA (National Nutritional Foods Association) GMP (good manufacturing practices) Certification Program. This program is based upon third party inspections of member suppliers and comprehensive audits of their GMP programs in the areas of Personnel, Plant and Grounds, Sanitation, Equipment, Quality Operations, Production and Process Controls, and Warehouse, Distribution, and Post-Distribution Practices.
